The Mississippi Senate Democratic Caucus on Thursday, January 09, 2020, re-elected District 12 Senator Derrick T. Simmons of Greenville as its Chairman and District 29 Senator David Blount of Jackson as Vice Chairman.

The caucus networks across party lines pushing legislation that benefits all Mississippians.

“One of the highest honors is to have the support of your colleagues to serve and lead together as they have entrusted me with this position,” said Simmons, Chairman of the Senate Enrolled Bills Committee. “It is important now more than ever that we work collectively as a caucus and with leadership and the majority to improve the quality of life for all Mississippians.”

Blount, Chairman of the Senate Public Property Committee, echoed those sentiments.

“I am humbled to have been elected Vice Chairman of our Senate Democratic Caucus by my colleagues.  I am especially happy to serve with Chairman Sen. Derrick Simmons, who has done an outstanding job as our leader.   As proud Democrats, we will work with our Republican colleagues when we can but will never be afraid to stand up for our constituents and to fight for a better state for all of our citizens.”
