Mississippi Senator Derrick T. Simmons issued statement on MS Legislative Black Caucus Boycott of SLC
Senator Derrick T. Simmons’ Statement on the Mississippi Legislative Black Caucus’ Boycott of Southern Legislative Conference 2017 Annual Meeting in Mississippi over the confederate state flag
“The Mississippi Flag and its deeply rooted ties to the Confederate flag is a painful reminder of a time that all of our country should want to move beyond – the glorification of slavery and the demeaning of one human life over another because of the color of the skin. I cannot as a child of God respect something that reminds us of the awful history of the Civil War and its intent to preserve slavery.”
